US president donald trump will no longer attend the funeral of former first lady barbara bush today.

the white residence stated mr trump was missing the occasion "to avoid disruptions because of added security, and out of recognition for the bush family ".

melania trump will but go to the funeral "on behalf of the 1st family", in keeping with the announcement.

the previous 1st lady's coffin is being saved at st martin's episcopal church in houston, texas.

president trump said he knew mrs bush as a "wonderful wonderful person " at a news conference on wednesday.

"she is a woman of proud patriotism and profound faith," mr trump said at his mar-a-lago lodge.

donald trump has had it tough with the bush family, most significantly in his run in opposition to jeb bush for the republican presidential nomination in 2016.

each former bush presidents have clashed with the current president.

in an e book titled the closing republicans, bush snr labelled mr trump a "blowhard", while bush jnr said: "this guy does not know what it means to be president."
