The former Borussia Dortmund coach now Liverpool coach jurgen klopp has been labeled as Mr. Unfortunate by football fans after losing his sixth successive final to the Spanish giants on Saturday being the 26th of May, when they lost to Real Madrid in a 3 - 1 score line.
Jurgen klopp just ended his second season campaign at Liverpool rather in a disappointing manner after the champions league final loss.
There were lots of speculations concerning the champions league finals in regards to who would lift the trophy but football fans all over the world never forgot klopp's misfortune when it comes to finals, all they did hope for was breaking the successive final loss jurgen klopp has had all through his career as a coach but yet the story didn't change.
Let's look back at the German's unwanted record;
2013 Champions League - Borussia Dortmund 1 Bayern Munich 2
Arjen Robben scored in the 89th minute as Bayern Munich overcame Klopp's Borussia Dortmund in a thrilling all-Bundesliga encounter at Wembley. Robben played his part in Bayern's opener as he set up Mario Mandzukic to score on the hour. Dortmund hit back through Ilkay Gundogan's penalty, but Robben had the final say as he latched on to Franck Ribery's flick before beating goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller in the penultimate minute.
2014 German Cup - Borussia Dortmund 0 Bayern Munich 2 (aet)
Klopp's side had handed a 3-0 beating to Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga only weeks earlier, but the now Manchester City manager had the last laugh after his team ran out winners following extra time. The final was goalless after 90 minutes, but that man Robben and Thomas Muller struck to send Klopp to a second defeat in as many finals.Bayern Munich overcame Klopp's Borussia Dortmund in a thrilling encounter at Wembley
2015 German Cup - Borussia Dortmund 1 Wolfsburg 3
Dortmund beat Bayern Munich on penalties in their last-four German Cup clash, but came unstuck against Wolfsburg in the final. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring for Dortmund after five minutes, but Wolfsburg responded with three goals in 16 devastating first-half minutes - with City's Kevin De Bruyne among the scorers - to end Klopp's Dortmund reign with yet another final defeat.
2016 League Cup - Liverpool 1 Manchester City 1 (Liverpool lost on penalties)
In only his fourth month in charge at the Anfield club, Klopp had the chance to change his poor run in finals, but there was an all-too-familiar story for the German after Liverpool lost on penalties. Philippe Coutinho cancelled out Fernandinho's opener, but Coutinho, Lucas and Adam Lallana all missed from the spot as City won the shootout 3-1.Liverpool lost on penalties against Manchester City in the 2016 League Cup final
2016 Europa League - Liverpool 1 Sevilla 3
Another final, but another defeat for Klopp. Liverpool had beaten Klopp's former side Dortmund and fierce rivals Manchester United en route to the showpiece in Basel, but suffered a second-half collapse in a 3-1 defeat to Sevilla. Daniel Sturridge scored for the Reds after 35 minutes, but Kevin Gameiro levelled after the break before Koke scored twice to condemn Klopp to his fifth loss in five consecutive finals.
2018 Champions League - Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 3
Gareth Bale scored one of the best goals in Champions League history as Real Madrid retained their title. Karim Benzema capitalised on Reds goalkeeper Loris Karius' error to put Real ahead in the 51st minute before Sadio Mane levelled four minutes later. Bale then stunned Klopp's side with a stunning overhead bicycle kick in the 64th minute, before another blunder from Karius saw the Wales striker add the third for Real in the 83rd minute.
First and foremost Liverpool are emphatically moving in the right direction under Klopp who has over-achieved. But he has also now lost six successive finals and has to consider what that might say about his management and his approach. He went into every one an underdog, he reached every one in impressive circumstances but he has not won any.
So Klopp must examine himself - and will – and also the psychology of his players and their mental resilience. The loss of Salah after Ramos executed the football equivalent of a rugby spear-tackle hurt them more than it should. Without Mo Liverpool, who had been dominant, who had Real ragged, who were playing that ‘big balls football’, lost their momentum. They retreated in an alarming manner and Real sensed it and ruthlessly responded.
There was something else that was crucial and is needed for perspective. It did not help that Klopp had so little to hit back with from the bench with a roster of substitutes that included three defenders, two of which are not good enough, a midfielder who is leaving having run down his contract in Emre Can, a young striker in Dominic Solanke and the man turned to as the manager was forced to replace Salah. Adam Lallana was patently unfit.
It meant Liverpool’s lack of depth was cruelly exposed and although Naby Keita is arriving – with Can leaving – and Nabil Fekir being pursued to add creativity, there needs to be more and Klopp needs to be ruthless to not only demand it but execute it. A goalkeeper is already on the list but it has to be a first-choice not a replacement for under-study Simon Mignolet. And more money needs to be spent to help Klopp who has worked with such a minimal net spend.
